Director Prashanth Neel has put to rest the swirling rumors that Prabhas’s much‑awaited sequel, Salaar 2, was shelved. In a candid interview with Variety, Neel clarified that the franchise is very much on his roadmap and is slated to hit theatres in 2028 or 2029, right after he wraps up his current venture, Dragon, with Jr NTR. The confusion began when Neel mentioned that any fresh idea would now be dedicated to Dragon, leading fans to think Salaar 2 had lost priority. He quickly corrected the narrative, confirming that it’s actually KGF 3 that is on hold, while Salaar 2 will move forward as soon as Dragon is completed.

Neel also teased a visual overhaul for the sequel, promising to step away from the dark, high‑contrast palette that defined both KGF and the original Salaar. The first film, released in late 2023, became a box‑office juggernaut in early 2024, drawing audiences into the dystopian city‑state of Khansaar and the fierce friendship between Deva (Prabhas) and Varadha (Prithviraj Sukumaran). Its blend of betrayal, loyalty, and brutal action cemented a loyal fan base eager for the next chapter.
Meanwhile, Prabhas isn’t slowing down. He’s expected to finish his current projects—Fauzi, Spirit, and the ambitious Kalki 2—before returning to the Salaar universe. Fauzi is down to a few weeks of action sequences, while Spirit and Kalki 2, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Nag Ashwin respectively, are in full swing in Hyderabad. Kalki 2 even boasts veteran stars Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan in pivotal roles. With the sequel’s green light confirmed and a clear timeline set, fans can look forward to another high‑octane adventure from Prabhas and Neel in the late 2020s.
